Heavenly Bodies

May 10 – Oct 08, 2018 @ The Met Cloisters

I saw Heavenly Bodies at the Met 5th Avenue when it opened in May. It was dazzling but—to be honest—not deeply moving. Somehow seeing the rest of the exhibit dragged until closing weekend. Not because I wasn’t excited to go but because the Cloisters are, well, kind of cloistered.

It was so worth the hike to Fort Tryon and sweating up the winding access paths in the rain.

Seeing the clothes in context made the “Catholic imagination” more real and meaningful. I didn’t get the point of Heavenly Bodies until I got inside the architecture that inspired it.

建築の中では建築が服につながりと「カトリックのイマジネーション 」の意味を遂に理解できた。
